Developmental Editing

Developmental editing is the first step in the book editing process. It is high-level, structural editing. You can have several rounds of developmental editing. By high level, I mean it includes revisions and suggestions about the structure, organization, and general tone of your manuscript. It does not focus on the line-level issues that we deal with in the next phase of editing (copyediting and line editing).

Copyediting/Line Editing

Copyediting and line editing are line-level editing. I do both in one service. Copyediting and line editing focus on reviewing, correcting, improving, and refining grammar, sentence structure, clarity, and style. You can have more than one round of copyediting/line editing.

Proofreading

Proofreading takes place after all copyediting is complete. It involves reviewing and correcting any grammar, spelling, or punctuation errors that slipped through the copyediting process.
